I have the honour to inform you that in
the month of March of last year Major-General Sir Willica
Gascoigne appointed a Committee of representative Chinese to
enquire into and report upon the financial position of the
Tung Wah Hospital, which had become somewhat embarrassed on
account of increased expenses in connection with the extension
of their premises at Tai Ping Shan and the construction and
installation of the new Infectious Diseases Hospital at Kennedy
Town. I now forward a copy of their report, from which it will
be seen that while an annual increase in the expenditure
amounting to 30,000 is contemplated, the additional revenue
from all sources that can be made available to meet this in-
creased expenditure is estimated at $20,000. The Committee,
however, are of the opinion that for the next few years this
additional $20,000 will, if realized, suffice to carry on the
work of the hospital. I also attach copy of a letter from the
Chairman of the Hospital which explains the present financial
position of the hospital.
